Through the Trifacta® application, you can create connections between Trifacta and your file- or table-based datastores. Connections can be import-only, publish-only, or both.

Tip: When you first log in to the Trifacta application, you should be able to see and use some connections for importing data and writing results. You may need to create a connection only if the datastore of interest is listed in the Connections page as an existing connection.

Steps:

  1. From the left nav bar, click the Connections icon.
  2. From the Connections page, click Create Connection
  3. In the Create Connection page, you can search or browse for the preferred connection type.
  4. Select the preferred type of connection. 

    Tip: Early Preview connection types provide read-only access to the designated datastore. These limited-support connection types provide early access so that you can get started using your data.

  5. In the Create Connection window, enter the required details:

  6. The following properties are available in most table-based connection types:

    NOTE: These properties are common to most types of relational connections. File-based connection types have a different set of properties, and individual relational connection types may have additional properties.

    PropertyDescription
    HostHost of the database.
    Port

    Port by which to access the database host.

    Default values are pre-populated based on the connection type you selected.

    Connect String Options

    (optional) If access to the database requires special connection string options, you may paste or enter them here.

    You only need to provide the parameter and string value. Example:

    ";transportMode=http;httpPath=cliservice"
    Enable SSL

    Select the checkbox to enable SSL connections to the database.

    NOTE: Additional configuration may be required in the database server. For more information, please consult the documentation that was provided with your database distribution.

    DatabaseEnter the name of the database on the server to which you are connecting.
    User Name

    (basic credential type) Username to access the database. This value is encrypted for security.

    Password
    (basic credential type) Password for the specified user. This value is encrypted for security.
    Test Connection

    Click Test Connection after entering all the required details to validate that Trifacta can connect to the database.

    Advanced Options: Default Column Data Type Inference

    You can choose to enable or disable type inferencing for individual connections, when the connection is created or edited.

    Connection Name

    Display name of the connection.

    NOTE: This value must be unique among all connections.

    Connection DescriptionDescription for the connection.
  7. To create the connection, Click Create.
