Ask Alteryx in Live Query

Use Ask Alteryx to ask questions about your Live Query workflow and add supported tools to the canvas while you build in Live Query.

Note

Ask Alteryx in Live Query is available only for Live Query for Google BigQuery workflows.

Before You Start

To use Ask Alteryx in Live Query, make sure you meet these requirements:

  • You must be on an Alteryx One Professional or Enterprise Edition.

  • Enable Live Query for your workspace.

  • Have access to a Google BigQuery connection to create a Live Query for Google BigQuery workflow.

  • Enable Ask Alteryx for your workspace.

Use Ask Alteryx in Live Query

  1. Open a Live Query for Google BigQuery workflow.

  2. Place an Input Data tool on the canvas and connect to your data.

  3. Select Ask Alteryx located above the canvas.

  4. Enter a prompt that describes what you want to do with your data.

  5. Review the response from Ask Alteryx and confirm next steps if prompted.

  6. If Ask Alteryx adds tools to the canvas, review and configure the tools before you run the workflow.

Ask Alteryx can also help you perform the following tasks while you build your workflow:

  1. Provide general knowledge answers about Live Query and links to relevant Help documentation.

  2. Create a summary of your workflow. Ask Alteryx can also document your workflow with the Comment tool.

  3. Automatically add and configure tools in your workflow.

  4. Edit or delete tools on the canvas.

  5. Troubleshoot workflow errors to help you identify and resolve issues.

  6. Provide next steps for building your workflow.

  7. Run your workflow. Run your workflow and publish the results to the output source configured in the Output tool.

  8. Sample workflow data. When Data Awareness is enabled, Ask Alteryx can execute supported Live Query tools against your connected cloud data warehouse and securely sample up to 500 rows of data. The sampled data helps Ask Alteryx understand your dataset's format and structure so it can provide more accurate tool suggestions and configurations.

Prompt Guidelines

To help Ask Alteryx return useful results, include specific details in your prompt.

  • Describe the task you want to complete.

  • Include relevant column names, tool names, or workflow context.

  • Ask for a specific next step when you want Ask Alteryx to update the workflow.

Caution

Do not include Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or other sensitive information due to privacy concerns.

Ask Alteryx Interface

Review the information below to become familiar with the Ask Alteryx user interface.

  • Chat: When you open Ask Alteryx, the window is the default view. This is where you enter your prompts and view Ask Alteryx responses.

  • Settings: The Settings page (gear icon) includes options to configure and manage Ask Alteryx.

    • Data Awareness: Turn on or off the ability for Ask Alteryx to sample your data for better insights. For more information, go to Data Awareness.

    • Current Workspace: View the connected Alteryx One workspace.

    • Reload Ask Alteryx: Restart Ask Alteryx.

  • Float/Dock: Select the float/dock window icon to float or dock the chat panel while you work on the canvas.
