Microsoft SQL Server (ODBC) Connections
You can use the Microsoft SQL Server (ODBC) connector to read data from and write data to Microsoft SQL Server databases in Alteryx One.
The Microsoft SQL Server is built on the Unified connector framework and uses an Alteryx-managed ODBC driver. No local driver installation is required.
Important
This connector is currently available in Preview and does not yet offer full feature parity with the existing Microsoft SQL Server connector. Review its capabilities to ensure they meet your requirements before using it in production.
Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
Driver Name | ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server |
Driver installation | The driver is provided by Alteryx One. No separate installation is required. |
Connection Type | ODBC |
Support | Read and Write |
Authentication | Basic Authentication |
Prerequisites
Before creating the connection:
Verify that Alteryx One can connect to your Microsoft SQL Server instance.
Add the required Alteryx service IP addresses to your allowlist, if applicable.
Obtain a SQL Server username and password with the required database permissions.
Configure the Connection
To create a connection:
In Alteryx One, go to Data > New Connection.
Search for and select Microsoft SQL Server (Preview).
Configure the connection properties.
Select Test Connection.
After the connection test succeeds, select Create.
Connection Details
Once the connection is created, enter the following details in the appropriate fields:
Host: Hostname or IP address of the SQL Server instance.
Port: Port used by SQL Server. The default is 1433.
Database: Name of the database to which you want to connect.
User Name: Username used to connect to SQL Server.
Password: Password associated with the username.
Connection Name: Display name for the connection in Alteryx One.
Connection Description: Optional description of the connection.
Credential Information
Credential Type: Select Username and Password. This is the only authentication method currently supported by the Preview connector.
Username: Required. Enter the username used to connect to the database.
Password: Required. Enter the password associated with the username.
Select Test Connection to verify that Alteryx One can connect using the supplied configuration. If the test succeeds, save the connection.
Authentication Options
The Microsoft SQL Server Preview connector currently supports Username and Password authentication.
Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth, Windows Integrated Authentication, service-principal authentication and managed identity are not currently supported by this connector.
Limitations
The connector is currently available in Preview and only basic authentication is supported.
The connector does not yet provide full feature parity with the existing Microsoft SQL Server connector.
Existing connections and workflows are not automatically migrated to the new connector.
Existing Microsoft SQL Connector
Alteryx One also provides an existing JDBC-based Microsoft SQL Server connector. If you require capabilities that are not yet available with the Preview connector, see Microsoft SQL Server Connections.
