Library for Data Page

Review the assets to which you have access in the Library for Data page.

To open the Library for Data, select Data from the Platform Navigation Bar.

Tip

If you land in an empty Library for Data page, you can start adding datasets. Select Import Data. Go to Import Data Page.

Tabs:

  • All Data: You can view all the imported datasets or references available to you.

  • Imported Datasets: Review your imported datasets from sources such as file-based storage, connected databases, or desktop.

    • The Source column indicates where the original source data is located.

Filter by type:

Click one of the pre-defined filters to show datasets of the following types:

Filter by ownership:

For the selected object type, you can filter based on the ownership of the object:

  • All: All objects of the selected type to which you have access.

  • Owned by me: All objects of the selected type that you own.

  • Shared with me: All objects of the type that have been shared with you.

Filter by Data Label:

Use the data-label filter to find datasets with specific labels:

  1. Go to Data.

  2. Select the Datasets tab.

  3. Select the filter icon above the dataset list.

  4. Select Data Label from the filter types.

  5. Search for a label or expand a category.

  6. Select one or more labels to filter the dataset list.

The filter displays the number of selected labels. Clear a selected label to remove it from the filter.

Only categories that contain enabled labels appear in the filter. Empty categories and categories disabled by an administrator are not shown.

Columns:

  • Name: Name of the asset. Applied Data Labels appear as badges next to the asset name. Hover over a badge to view the label category, value, description, the user who applied it, and the date it was applied. Click the Data Label badge to edit/update the applied Data Label.

  • Source: Location where the asset is located.

  • Owner: Owner of the asset.

  • Shared With: Shows the users or groups who have access to the dataset. A lock icon indicates that the dataset hasn’t been shared and access is restricted to its owner and authorized administrators. Select the lock icon to share the dataset and assign Viewer or Editor access to users.

  • Last updated: Timestamp of the last time that the asset was modified.

  • Use In: Select from the dropdown menu to use the Dataset in Designer Cloud or Auto Insights.

  • Three-dot menu: Select the three-dot menu next to a dataset to access these options:

    • Edit: Edit the dataset.

    • Share: Share the dataset and assign Viewer or Editor access to users.

    • Data Labels: Apply, update, or remove Data Labels. You can also manage Data Labels from the dataset details page. For complete details, go to Dataset Details Page.

    • Tags: Add or remove tags associated with the dataset.

    • Refresh: Refresh the dataset metadata with the latest source schema.

    • Transfer Ownership: Transfer ownership of the dataset to another user.

    Note

Available options depend on your ownership and permissions for the dataset.

Actions:

  • Browse: If displayed, use the page browsing controls to explore the available objects.

  • Search: To search object names, enter a string in the search bar. Results are highlighted immediately in the page.

  • Sort: Select a column header to sort the display by the column's entries.

Object Actions:

Hover over an object to reveal these actions on the right side of the screen.

  • Details: Review details about the dataset. Go to Dataset Details Page.

  • Preview: Inspect a preview of the dataset.

    Note

Preview is not available for binary format sources.

  • Make a copy: Create a copy of the imported dataset. This option is not available for reference datasets.

  • Edit name and description: Change the name and description of the dataset.

  • Edit data settings: If the source of the imported dataset required conversion to an internally supported format, you can modify settings related to that conversion process. For more information, go to File Import Settings.

    Tip

This setting applies primarily to binary file formats, such as PDF and Excel, or file formats that may require additional steps to convert into tabular data, such as JSON.

  • Refresh dataset: If available, this option refreshes the dataset's metadata with the latest source schema.

Note

If you attempt to refresh the schema of a parameterized dataset based on a set of files, only the schema for the first file is checked for changes. If changes are detected, the other files contain those changes as well. This can lead to changes being assumed or undetected in later files and potential data corruption.

  • Replace dataset: Replace the dataset with a new dataset. This action takes you to the Import Data Page to select a new dataset.

  • Transfer ownership: For assets that you own, you can transfer ownership of them to another user. For more information, go to Transfer Asset Ownership.

  • Delete dataset: Delete the dataset.

    Note

This action only deletes the dataset reference that points to the file in the original data source. It does not delete the dataset in the original data source.

    Warning

Deleting a dataset can't be undone.

Imported Datasets

Note

You can only see the imported datasets to which you have access in your currently selected project or workspace. If the data underlying the imported dataset is not available, the imported dataset is still listed in the page, since it is just a reference to the data.

To create a new imported dataset, click Import Data. For more information, go to Import Data Page.

For more information, go to Imported Datasets Page.

Macros

You can either import macros from your desktop or browse through the Alteryx One community page for existing macros. For more information, go to Import Macro.
