Govern Packages with Data Labels and Certification
Use Data Labels to add governance context to packages and identify packages that have been reviewed and approved for a specific purpose. Packages with data labels communicate governance and trust information throughout the promotion lifecycle.
Note
Certification is scoped to a specific version. Because packages are immutable once created, a certification decision made on a package version will never be silently invalidated by an underlying content change. A new package version is required for any change, and that new version starts uncertified.
Data Labels provide governance metadata. They don't grant, restrict, or otherwise change access to a package.
How Certification Applies to Packages
Certification applies to a specific package version. Because a package cannot be modified after creation, certification remains associated with that version. If a change results in a new package version, the new version is uncertified by default.
Certification doesn't carry over automatically. Certification labels are not copied from the source workflow or dataset to the package, or from one package version to another. Certify each package version separately.
Packages use the Data Labels framework. Package certification uses the same workspace-level Data Labels framework as other supported assets. Workspace Admins can use the existing certification category and configure custom Data Labels to communicate additional release or governance information.
You can apply the system-defined Certification category or other available Data Label categories, such as Sensitivity, Data Quality, Compliance, and custom categories configured for your workspace.
For example, your organization might configure custom labels such as:

Regulatory-Approved | The package has been reviewed and approved according to applicable regulatory or compliance requirements. |
Note
The above examples of custom Data Labels aren't system-defined Certification values. Workspace Admins define the categories and values available in a workspace. For information about configuring Data Labels, go to Data Labels and Asset Certification.
You must have the
asset.datalabelcapability to apply or change Data Labels on a package.
Certify a Package
Apply a data label to a package version to certify it.
To certify a package…
Select SDLC Manager.
Locate the package version you want to certify. Select the package to open its asset details page.
Select the three-dot menu on the asset details page.
Select Data Labels.
Select the appropriate category and value. For example, select Certification: Certified or an applicable custom Data Label.
Save your changes.
Note
You must have the required permission and capability to certify a package. Users with insufficient permissions can view certification information, but cannot apply Data Labels or change them.
The Data Labels option on the asset details page remains inactive for users with insufficient permissions.
Certification in the Package Promotion Workflow
Data Labels provide governance context throughout the promotion and release process.
A typical flow is:
Promotion review: Approvers can use Data Labels associated with the assets as context when reviewing a promotion request.
Package creation: After the promotion request is approved, Alteryx creates the package in the destination workspace.
Package certification: An authorized user can apply certification or other Data Labels to the package version to indicate its governance or release status.
Audit history: Certification and other Data Label changes are recorded as audit events for the package version.
View and Search Labeled Packages
Data Labels applied to packages are visible in:
SDLC Manager list page.
Package details page.
Promotion request review, where approvers can use governance information as context for their approval decision.
You can also use Data Label filters in the SDLC Manager to find packages based on their assigned labels. For example, you can filter for certified packages to identify approved release artifacts.
